Didi, You've Not Lost: Akhilesh Yadav Meets Mamata Banerjee After West Bengal Election Debacle
Yadav expressed solidarity with Banerjee after the Trinamool Congress won 80 seats and discussed Opposition unity against the Bharatiya Janata Party.
On Thursday, Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav met West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee in Kolkata, expressing solidarity with the Trinamool Congress leadership following the party's election defeat.
The BJP secured 207 of 294 seats in the West Bengal Assembly election, ending the Trinamool Congress's 15-year rule in the state.
Yadav alleged that democracy was undermined through voter coercion, stating, "No one has probably damaged democracy as much as the BJP has." He also told Banerjee, "Didi, you have not lost."
TMC national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee also met with Yadav, who told him, "What a commendable battle you all have fought." The discussion carried a positive tone.
Banerjee has vowed to strengthen the INDIA bloc to recalibrate opposition strategies after electoral setbacks across states. Yadav affirmed his support, stating, "We are with Didi in this fight because we have to save democracy and the constitution.
