NSA Ajit Doval Speaks to Iranian Counterpart Rezaei on Latest Regional Developments
The two officials exchanged views on regional and international developments and matters of mutual interest, the Iranian Embassy said.
- On Monday, National Security Adviser Ajit Doval held a telephone conversation with Iran's Supreme National Security Council Secretary Mohsen Rezaei to discuss regional and international developments of mutual interest to both countries.
- This conversation follows heightened maritime instability after the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps struck a third supertanker in the Strait of Hormuz within 48 hours, and a drone attack hit the Nicaragua-flagged tanker MT Petro Dolphin at Sohar Anchorage on October 11.
- Union Minister of Ports, Shipping and Waterways Sarbananda Sonowal confirmed two Indian nationals remain missing from the drone attack, while nine of the 11 Indian seafarers were rescued and search operations continue under the local Coast Guard.
- India has called on all sides to exercise restraint and prioritize civilian safety, with New Delhi emphasizing that dialogue and diplomacy are the way forward to restore peace and stability in West Asia.
- The conflict poses significant risks for India given its large diaspora in the Gulf and dependence on regional energy supplies, prompting New Delhi to oppose attacks on commercial shipping and stress freedom of navigation through international waterways.
