AirPods Live Translation feature coming to the EU next month

Apple's Live Translation for AirPods, supporting multiple languages, launches in the EU next month after delay due to compliance with the Digital Markets Act.

  • Next month Apple Inc. will enable Live Translation for select AirPods in the European Union with iOS 26.2, following the first iOS 26.2 developer beta seeded today.
  • Regulatory uncertainty tied to the Digital Markets Act caused Apple to postpone the EU availability of Live Translation on AirPods, Apple said.
  • To use Live Translation, users need AirPods Pro 3, AirPods Pro 2, or AirPods 4 with Active Noise Cancellation and an iPhone 15 Pro or newer with Apple Intelligence and the Translate app, activating by pressing both buds or via the app.
  • A public beta will soon follow and Apple said iOS 26.2 will be released to all users in December as a free software upgrade for EU users.
  • Supported languages include French, German, Portuguese, Spanish, Italian, Japanese, Korean and Chinese, and the feature works best when both participants use Live Translation, though users may experience a translation delay.
