Biman Bangladesh Orders 10 Airbus Planes: Four A350-900s & Six A321neos
The firm order adds six A321neos and four A350-900s as Biman seeks more range and efficiency for network expansion.
- On Wednesday, Biman Bangladesh Airlines ordered 10 Airbus jets, comprising four A350-900s and six A321neos, the European planemaker announced.
- Just last week, Biman placed a firm order for 25 Boeing jets, expanding rapidly from its current fleet of 19 aircraft consisting mainly of Boeing jets and Dash-8 turboprops.
- Biman Bangladesh Chairman Rumee A. Hossain defended the expansion as a "measured and reasonable ambition," citing the nation's 200 million population and 15 million-strong diaspora.
- Operating out of Dhaka, the airline intends to leverage the latest-generation aircraft to expand its network to North America, Europe, and the Middle East.
- Despite ambitious route plans, Biman faces regulatory constraints because Bangladesh lacks a Federal Aviation Administration Category 1 rating, preventing current flights to the United States.
