A judicial investigation has been launched in France following several deaths linked to defective airbags manufactured by Takata. Authorities are seeking to shed light on the circumstances surrounding these tragic incidents involving the Japanese automotive supplier.

Judicial information was opened on 16 April, in particular for aggravated deception and endangering the lives of others, in the case of the defective airbags of the manufacturer Takata which caused deaths in France, said the Paris Public Prosecutor's Office on Friday.
The investigating judges could also be seized of the three fatal accidents that occurred in 2021 in Martinique, in 2023 in the Hautes-Pyrénées and in June 2025 in the Marne.
