Artificial intelligence is already being widely used on the battlefield, and the role of human judgment in military operations is shrinking rapidly, the head of the UN’s independent disarmament research institute warned on Tuesday.
UNIDIR Director Geiss, speaking at UN Headquarters, drew attention to the risks of military AI and called for a binding agreement on lethal autonomous weapons. Geiss emphasized that these technologies are used in intelligence gathering, target identification, and cyberspace, diminishing human reasoning capabilities.
