What Is Google's AI Mode? How to Use New Tool Being Launched in UK This Week

According to a 9to5Google report, Google’s AI Mode widget shortcut is expanding to more Android users globally, with UK users gaining access in the next few days.
Earlier this year, Google rolled out AI Mode to Search users in the US and tested its widget shortcut in the Google app for Android via the Search Labs experiment.
The shortcut icon appears primarily in the Google app’s widget as the third icon and in the search box, featuring a magnifying glass and the Gemini sparkle symbol in app version 16.28.
Users in the UK can tap the new AI Mode button on the search bar’s right side for deeper results, replacing standard pages with a conversational, chat-like interface.
A Pew Research Center report found users click traditional results 8 times less when served AI summaries, and Google reports AI Mode can hallucinate.
