AI actors not eligible for Golden Globes, say organizers
On Thursday, the Golden Globes released new eligibility rules for the 84th annual awards, clarifying that performances substantially generated by artificial intelligence are ineligible for nomination.
These guidelines follow the Academy's recent decision to tighten rules against AI avatars, responding to industry concerns central to the 2023 Hollywood strikes.
Organizers specified that AI for "technical or cosmetic enhancements" is permissible, provided the underlying performance remains that of the credited human individual.
Submissions must include a disclosure describing any generative AI used in production, as the Globes mandate that core creative contributions originate primarily from credited human individuals.
Ahead of the January 10, 2027 ceremony, organizers seek to balance innovation with human-driven authorship, following controversies involving unauthorized digital recreations like that of actor Val Kilmer.
