- With the commutation, Maryam Sanda faces about five more years to serve after roughly seven years behind bars at Suleja Medium Security Custodial Centre.
- The President ordered institutional changes to the mercy process, relocating the Presidential Advisory Committee on Prerogative of Mercy Secretariat to the Federal Ministry of Justice and directing the Attorney-General of the Federation to issue mandatory guidelines following Council of State consultations and public opinion.
