A Salvadoran police officer has confessed to having participated in at least 97 murders between 2015 and 2020 as a member of an extermination group dedicated to the execution of alleged gang members, according to the Salvadoran newspaper El Faro. Among the victims, there are minors, businessmen and a priest. The officer, who became a witness to the prosecution, stated that a mayor close to President Nayib Bukele paid him for 36 of those murders.
