"A place to learn about the tragic war" - Former military doctor in Nagano's Saku City sets up information board at Itosu cave

[Itoman] An information board explaining the cave and handrails on the stairs have recently been installed at the "Ukka Gama Cave" in Ishiki, Itoman City, which was used as the No. 2 Field Hospital during the Battle of Okinawa in 1945. The head of the field hospital, military doctor Koike Yusuke (1890-1945), was from Saku City, Nagano Prefecture, and the city installed the cave so that it could be used for peace education.
