A growing interest: Students join in to create mini orchard at La Jolla Elementary

Talk about bringing something to fruition.  A project six years in the making took root at La Jolla Elementary School last week, when students, parents and other volunteers planted a couple of dozen fruit trees on a campus hillside to create a miniature orchard.  The project, led by master gardener and La Jolla Elementary parent Jennifer Giaconi, involved planting apple, peach, plum, apricot, pomegranate, fig, avocado and orange trees on May 24.…
