- On Thursday, an Orleans Parish grand jury indicted Louisiana Attorney General Liz Murrill on 16 felony counts, including eight counts of public intimidation and eight counts of malfeasance in office.
- The charges follow letters Murrill sent to New Orleans Mayor Helena Moreno, District Attorney Jason Williams, and five city council members warning their opposition to a Republican-led Legislature law could result in removal from office.
- Appointed by Criminal District Judge Leon Roche, special prosecutor Laurie White described the case as "very simple" and "very open and shut." Jurors found probable cause for charges to move forward.
- Louisiana Governor Jeff Landry called the Orleans Parish criminal justice system a "Kangaroo court" and promised to pardon Murrill on the 16 charges "as fast as the law allows" in a Thursday social media post.
- The Republican Attorneys General Association defended Murrill, stating she was "issuing a legal opinion and warning public officials about the law" as part of her official duties, while Mayor Moreno said the indictment is "a matter for the courts.
