Toyota, Subaru, Lexus Recall over 90,000 Vehicles over Heating, Cooling System Issues

Recall affects 2023-2025 Toyota bZ4X, Lexus RZ, and Subaru Solterra models; dealers will update HVAC software and inspect compressors to prevent visibility issues and crashes.

  • Toyota, Subaru and Lexus announced a recall of 94,320 electric vehicles and halted sales at dealerships following a notice from Toyota Motor Engineering & Manufacturing to the NHTSA.
  • Transport Canada alerted Toyota, and extreme-cold testing revealed that an electrical compressor failure can cause the HVAC ECU to enter failsafe mode, suspending heater and defroster operation.
  • Affected models include the 2023–2025 Toyota bZ4X, Lexus RZ and Subaru Solterra, with dealers updating HVAC control software and inspecting or replacing the electrical compressor at no charge.
  • In cold conditions the defect can prevent frost, ice or fog removal from the windshield, reducing visibility and increasing crash risk, NHTSA warned.
  • Owners will be mailed notices on October 20 and can check recall status via the NHTSA or USA TODAY recall databases and contact Toyota customer service 1-800-331-4331 using recall reference numbers 25TB07, 25TA07, 25LB04, 25LA04, WRD-25.
