California man creates AI chatbot to waste the time of telemarketers
Software developer Roger Anderson has equipped his voice service with OpenAI's GPT-4 language model to engage in ridiculous conversations with telemarketing scammers.
The AI-powered service, called Jolly Roger Telephone, uses various AI personalities, including Whitey Whitebeard, Salty Sally, and Whiskey Jack, to waste the scammers' time and eventually make them hang up out of exhaustion.
The service is available in the US, Canada, UK, Australia, and New Zealand, and customers can subscribe for $1.99 a month to connect their phone numbers to the AI personalities.
