Argentina's President Shares Ben-Gvir's Call to Recognize Country's Sovereignty Over
Itamar Ben Gvir called on Israel to recognize Argentine sovereignty over the Falkland Islands and sanction Britain as the UK readies a trade ban on settlements.
On Tuesday, National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir and Bezalel Smotrich urged Israel to sanction Britain, responding to reports of a UK plan to ban trade with illegal Israeli settlements.
Ben-Gvir posted that Israel should recognize Argentina's sovereignty over the Falkland Islands, calling the territory 'occupied' and urging Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to impose sanctions on Britain.
Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich called for expelling the British ambassador, labeling the UK an 'antisemitic government,' while Foreign Minister Gideon Saar warned, 'If Britain acts against Israel, Israel will act against Britain.'
Argentine President Javier Milei amplified the call by sharing Ben-Gvir's post on social media, though the majority of the 3,600 residents in the South Atlantic archipelago remain supportive of British rule.
The Trump administration reportedly opposes the British government's approach, with President Donald Trump suggesting last week he would not back Britain if Argentina invaded the Falkland Islands.
