Aftershocks are continuing in the Greek holiday island Crete after the destination was hit by a 6.1 magnitude earthquake on Thursday 22 May.

On Thursday morning, an earthquake of magnitude 6.1 shook the Greek island of Crete. According to the US Earthquake Observatory USGS, the epicentre was about 82 kilometres northeast of Crete's capital Heraklion.

The Greek islands have experienced an exceptionally high number of earthquakes this year.
