Trump expected to award science medal to SpaceX's Elon Musk, Fox News reports
The White House said 529 scientists and engineers have received the National Medal of Science since 1959.
On Thursday, President Donald Trump will host the 'Science: A New Golden Age Summit,' where he will present the National Medal of Science to SpaceX CEO Elon Musk and other tech leaders, marking a first for his administration.
This summit follows a September 29, 2026, White House luncheon where President Trump met with industry executives, including Musk, to discuss artificial intelligence and signed what he described as a 'morally binding' document.
Each honoree has financially supported President Trump or Republican causes, with Musk contributing over $290 million in the 2024 election cycle and Nvidia contributing $1 million to Trump's inauguration.
The administration will also award the National Medal of Technology and Innovation to Dell Technologies CEO Michael Dell and Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella, with White House assistant press secretary Liz Huston stating the administration is 'grateful for the contributions of these incredible leaders.'
Recent financial disclosures reveal that President Trump holds investments in several involved tech companies, having traded shares in SpaceX, Tesla, Nvidia, Microsoft, AMD, and Alphabet as recently as July.
