42 people have died in drowning accidents so far this year. At the same time last year, the number was 17. In June alone, 15 people drowned, and now we are entering July – the month that usually has the most drowning accidents in Norway. Why are the numbers so high this year, and what can we all do to prevent even more lives being lost this summer? We asked Marie Byberg from the Norwegian Rescue Service:

A total of 42 people have drowned in Norway so far this year. This is a sharp increase from the same period last year, when 17 people lost their lives, the Norwegian Rescue Service said in a press release.
