Ghent University does not believe that academic freedom has been violated now that disciplinary proceedings are underway against staff member Nathan Cofnas. Rector Petra De Sutter stated this following international criticism. Cofnas's appointment was already controversial, and the death of a Black professor raised new questions regarding his role.
