Poland says police got information about possible attack on PM and Defence Minister
On Sunday, Polish police received intelligence regarding a possible attack on Prime Minister Donald Tusk and Defence Minister Wladyslaw Kosiniak-Kamysz, prompting Interior Minister Marcin Kierwiński and Special Services Coordinator Tomasz Siemoniak to order an emergency response.
Authorities have been on high alert following a wave of school violence that killed a caretaker on Thursday; police checked 64,000 schools and detained over 100 people since Friday for possessing dangerous weapons or making threats.
Special services spokesperson Jacek Dobrzynski told reporters that authorities are treating the threat as "deadly serious," noting a "high probability" the plot could be carried out; reports indicate the warning arrived via email.
Representatives from the police, State Protection Service , and Internal Security Agency coordinated the security response during the emergency meeting, assessing intelligence to ensure safety of both officials while maintaining heightened protocols nationwide.
This development occurs amid broader security concerns, including warnings of Russian hybrid attacks and detention of eight individuals suspected of planning sabotage; Tusk previously reported receiving threats in 2024 following an assassination attempt on Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico.
The Polish interior ministry said Prime Minister Donald Tusk and Defense Minister Wladyslaw Kosiniak-Kamysz may have been targets of assassination expected.
