Saudi Arabia Approves Additional 10,000 Hajj Slots for Nigeria

NAHCON said the extra quota followed sustained diplomatic talks, with 7,500 slots going to state boards and 2,500 to tour operators.

  • On Thursday, the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria announced that Saudi Arabia approved 10,000 additional Hajj slots for 2027. Nigeria's total allocation increased from 50,000 to 60,000 pilgrims.
  • This expansion reflects sustained high-level diplomatic engagements between the Federal Government of Nigeria and Saudi Arabian authorities. NAHCON Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Ambassador Ismail Abba Yusuf described it as a "significant gesture of goodwill."
  • Under the new arrangement, 7,500 additional slots go to State Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Boards, Agencies and Commissions, while 2,500 are reserved for seven lead tour operator companies.
  • Ambassador Ismail Abba Yusuf assured that the commission would administer these slots "judiciously, transparently and in full compliance" with applicable regulations. NAHCON remains committed to high service standards for Nigerians.
  • Yusuf expressed appreciation to the Custodian of the two Holy Mosques and the Saudi Government, particularly Minister of Hajj and Umrah Dr Tawfiq bin Fawzan Al-Rabiah and Deputy Minister Dr Abdul Fattah bin Sulaiman Mashat.
