2027: Nnaji Emerges PDP Governorship Candidate for Enugu
Nnaji vowed tax relief, job creation and a one-term administration after defeating Samson Nnamani by 6,824 votes in the party primary.
- On Monday, former Minister of Innovation, Science and Technology Uche Nnaji won the Peoples Democratic Party governorship primary in Enugu State, polling 7,424 votes to defeat Samson Nnamani, who received 600 votes.
- Nnaji quietly switched from the APC to the PDP after unsuccessfully contesting the 2023 governorship election, though a two-year PREMIUM TIMES investigation alleged he forged his degree and National Youth Service Corps certificates submitted during ministerial confirmation.
- University of Nigeria, Nsukka Vice-Chancellor Simon Ortuanya confirmed to PREMIUM TIMES that Nnaji forged his UNN degree certificate, with the registrar corroborating that although Nnaji was admitted in 1981, he neither graduated nor received any certificate.
- In his acceptance speech, Nnaji pledged to lessen sufferings of Enugu residents by ensuring they are not overburdened under the guise of taxes, restating his promise to serve only one four-year term if elected governor in 2027.
- Nnaji remains under investigation by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission for alleged certificate forgery, while legal practitioners have called for his prosecution and ban from public office to deter others.
