20 B.C. Conservative MLAs call for Leader John Rustad's removal, lawyer's letter says
A majority of the B.C. Conservative caucus cites declining support and internal turmoil as reasons for demanding leader John Rustad's removal, according to a lawyer's letter.
- Bruce Hallsor's letter to party president Aisha Estey states twenty MLAs representing a majority of the 39-member caucus want B.C. Conservative Leader John Rustad removed.
- Management-Committee appeals in September cited Aisha Estey and six other members calling for Rustad's resignation, noting sagging polls, memberships, fundraising, a shrinking caucus, inconsistent policy and low morale.
- Legal counsel Bruce Hallsor delivered the statements under confidentiality, saying he holds 20 `individually executed` MLA statements and was asked to keep signatories confidential; Aisha Estey authenticated the letter Wednesday.
- John Rustad refused to resign, citing the party constitution and his 70.6 per cent leadership-review result, saying no number of legislators could force him to quit and it would be `their choice` if the 20 MLAs left the party caucus.
- Reported Dec. 3, 2025, the story comes amid escalating internal pressure from party organs, as the caucus revolt follows calls from party board members and riding executives urging John Rustad, B.C. Conservative Leader, to step down.
