Three Students Dead In Heartbreaking School Bus Crash Tuesday
CUDDALORE DISTRICT, TAMIL NADU, INDIA, JUL 8 – Two students died and three others were injured after a school van collided with a train at a railway crossing where the van driver ignored gate closure, police said.
- On Tuesday morning, July 8, 2025, a passenger train struck a school van near Semmankuppam, Cuddalore district, killing three children and injuring others.
- The accident resulted from the manually operated railway gate being left open, possibly due to the gatekeeper opening it under pressure from the van driver insisting on crossing.
- The van was struck by the train with great force and pulled approximately 50 feet along the tracks. Among the victims were Charumathi , Sezhiyan , and Nimalesh , while the driver of the van was also injured and taken to the hospital.
- District Superintendent Jayakumar confirmed three deaths and announced ex-gratia payments of ₹5 lakh for families of the deceased, ₹2.5 lakh for grievously injured, and ₹50,000 for minor injuries.
- Authorities suspended the gatekeeper, initiated removal procedures, dispatched a relief train with medical aid, and formed a committee to investigate accountability alongside police and railway officials.
