Alleged Tren De Aragua Gang Members Arrested in Maine After ATM Jackpotting Attempt
The Venezuelan gang Tren De Aragua allegedly stole nearly $170,000 from ATMs in six New England incidents using malware, federal prosecutors said.
- Two Venezuelan nationals, Moises Alejandro Martinez Gutierrez and Lestter Guerrero, were charged in an ATM jackpotting conspiracy after their Feb. 5, 2026 arrest in Augusta, Maine, linked to nearly $170,000 stolen.
- Prosecutors say Tren De Aragua, a violent transnational criminal organization originating in Venezuela, developed ATM jackpotting to steal millions, with members instructed to send 50% of proceeds to leadership.
- Investigators found that the suspects installed malware into automated teller machines , enabling them to override limits and steal $72,500 at Liberty Bay Credit Union and $58,200 at Granite State Credit Union.
- Both suspects are currently held in U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement custody in Stafford County, New Hampshire, charged with conspiracy to commit bank theft carrying up to five years in prison and fines, pending federal court in Boston.
- Investigators say authorities link the pair to six ATM jackpotting schemes across New England and the FBI and Department of Justice have probed a nationwide TdA conspiracy for 12 to 18 months, with court filings tying jackpotting to human smuggling, extortion, drug trafficking, kidnapping and robbery.
