MIAMI GARDENS, FLORIDA, JUL 29 – Christina Monique Doyle faces felony charges after her toddler accessed an unsecured handgun in a vehicle and accidentally shot himself, authorities said.
- On July 23, 2025, a Miami Gardens mother was arrested after her 2-year-old son accidentally shot himself with her unsecured handgun in a parking lot.
- Officer Diana Delgado-Gourge said, 'The toddler was in the backseat of the vehicle, and he grabbed his mother's purse and took out the firearm and shot himself in the leg,' and investigators found the black handgun wedged between the driver’s seat and center console.
- Shortly after 1:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Miami Gardens Police responded to a self-inflicted gunshot wound involving a toddler, and Miami-Dade Fire Rescue transported him to Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
- The judge set Christina Monique Doyle's bond at $5,000 and allowed contact with her son after she was taken into custody without incident.
- During her court appearance on Tuesday, prosecutors said the child was left in Doyle's car and grabbed the gun from her purse, while Doyle’s attorney argued she is a lawful gunowner and did not foresee the incident.
