Tenant Arrested in Hari Nagar Wall Collapse Tragedy

DELHI, AUG 9 – Seven people including two children died and one was injured when a wall collapsed due to severe waterlogging caused by heavy rains in Delhi, officials said.

  • On Saturday morning, a wall gave way near a cluster of makeshift homes in a locality of South East Delhi, leaving eight residents trapped under the debris.
  • The collapse followed heavy overnight rainfall that caused waterlogging and soil weakening near an old temple where the jhuggies stood.
  • Rescue operations led by police and Delhi Fire Services pulled all eight from the debris, with seven later dying and one injured admitted to Safdarjung Hospital.
  • Among the deceased were seven individuals: three adult males, two adult females, and two girls approximately seven years old. The only person injured, 25-year-old Hasibul, is currently undergoing medical treatment.
  • Officials relocated residents from the remaining nearby jhuggies as a precautionary measure and plan to investigate the wall’s ownership, condition, and any possible negligence.
