- A deadly collision took place around 4 p.m. On Sunday in Gadabiu community, Lokoja Local Government Area, Kogi State, involving a bus traveling to Abuja from the south and a large articulated truck.
- The crash happened because the bus, traveling from the South to Abuja, attempted a wrongful overtaking maneuver at high speed and collided head-on with the incoming truck.
- The crash involved 27 individuals, resulting in 19 immediate fatalities, among them five children whose bodies were severely burned, while eight others suffered injuries such as fractures, dislocations, and burns.
- Mr. Kumar Tsukwam, the Kogi FRSC Sector Commander, condemned the accident as unfortunate and avoidable, calling on drivers to adhere strictly to traffic regulations by refraining from speeding and improper overtaking to help curb the high rate of road accidents.
- The incident prompted emergency response by FRSC and police, evacuation of the injured to Fisayo Hospital, and a call from Governor Ahmed Ododo for stricter traffic enforcement and enhanced road safety campaigns.
