July's Typhoon Maysak killed at least 159 in China's southwest region
State media said 10 people were still missing as officials linked 107 deaths to six dam collapses in Nanning.
On Friday, state media reported the death toll from Typhoon Maysak's July floods in Guangxi, China, rose to 159, with ten people still missing.
Typhoon Maysak struck the region in July, bringing torrential rain and severe flooding; state media initially reported 39 deaths, a figure later revised upward.
Floods caused by the collapse of six dams in Nanning accounted for 107 deaths, while a breach at the Liulan Reservoir killed 26. The storm caused an estimated 14 billion yuan in direct economic damage.
Over 1.65 million people were affected across Nanning and Guigang, CCTV reported. Both cities have now fully entered the post-disaster recovery and reconstruction phase.
Across Asia, climate change has supercharged storms, with the continent warming nearly twice as fast as the global average. This trend increases vulnerability to severe weather events.
