Veronica Roth Revisiting 'Divergent' Universe with 'Sixth Faction'
The first book, The Sixth Faction, will revisit Tris’s choice in an alternate timeline and is set to publish on Oct. 6, 2026.
- On Saturday, bestselling author Veronica Roth announced at New York BookCon that she has written a new companion duology set in an alternate universe to her hit dystopian franchise, Divergent.
- This alternate timeline explores the question, "What if Tris hadn't transferred to Dauntless?" where tragedy at her Choosing Ceremony thrusts the protagonist into an underground rebellion instead of her original path.
- The first book, titled The Sixth Faction, will be published on October 6, 2026; HarperCollins publisher Erica Sussman called the new take a "tour de force" that will thrill longtime series fans.
- Roth noted that while the duology can be read as a standalone, it allows fans to rediscover the story during Divergent's 15-year anniversary, including the return of love interest Tobias Four Eaton.
- A second installment is scheduled for February 2027, as this project marks a return to the series that originally made Roth a household name, completing a total re-imagining of the story.
