Police Find Cobra, Crocodile During Drug Raid

Police seized 52 cannabis plants valued at $85,000, firearms, and dozens of exotic animals including a saltwater crocodile during a drug investigation at a Collombatti property.

  • On Wednesday about 10am, NSW Police arrested 39-year-old Brendan White after stopping a white Toyota HiLux in Kempsey, then searched a Collombatti property uncovering a large cannabis setup, firearms, and a makeshift zoo.
  • NSW Police investigators began their probe in November last year into alleged drug supply and firearms possession near Kempsey, leading to a property search on a Collombatti property.
  • During the Collombatti search officers recovered dangerous reptiles, a concealed rifle and a commercial cannabis setup, seizing more than 50 reptiles including a 1.3-metre saltwater crocodile and a cobra, 52 hydroponic plants, about 11 kilograms of cannabis leaf, and a rifle concealed in the kitchen.
  • White has been refused bail and is due to appear in court on Thursday; all animals were taken into care by the RSPCA, Kempsey Shire Council, licensed reptile handlers and biodiversity regulators.
  • Detective Acting Superintendent Brad Abdy said the scene was "confronting" and investigations continue, noting `Exactly what type and how many were unknown,' as police probe possible sales and trafficking links of 15 exotic animals from six species.
