1 Dead, 2 Injured After Argument Leads to Shooting on King Street
Police said a brief argument escalated into gunfire, leaving one person dead and two uninvolved bystanders injured, including one in life-threatening condition.
On Sunday, May 17, 2026, the Charleston Police Department arrested 35-year-old Andre Ramon Nesbit following a 2:30 a.m. shooting on King Street near Burns Lane that killed one person and injured two others.
An argument on the sidewalk outside Gilroy's Pizza Pub escalated into gunfire when Nesbit opened fire, fatally wounding one victim and striking two uninvolved bystanders, according to police.
Nesbit faces charges including murder, two counts of assault and battery, and possession of a firearm during a violent crime. The College of Charleston confirmed the victims were not connected to the institution.
Local business owner Nick Patel and student Skylie Crecco described the violence as shocking, while residents and business owners called for stronger police presence on King Street at night.
Investigators are asking anyone with information to call 843-720-2422 and request an on-duty detective. Officials confirmed the shooting was not random and poses no ongoing threat to the public.
