Argentina economic activity dips 1.4% in July
- On Thursday, Argentina's official statistics agency INDEC reported that economic activity fell 1.4% in July compared with the same month a year earlier, following the 2.7% rise recorded in June.
- Among 15 tracked sectors, the EMAE measurement alternated between rises and falls, with eight recording year-on-year declines led by wholesale, retail trade, and repairs falling 5.1% and manufacturing down 4.6%.
- Seasonally adjusted economic activity fell 2.9% in July from the previous month, marking the largest monthly decline since the Covid-19 pandemic for Latin America's third-largest economy.
- Facundo Beltramone, an economist at the Libertad think tank, said the data "shows a sign of weakness at the margin," noting exports fell 4.9% and imports 4.5% from the previous month.
- Javier Milei's government has cut public spending to curb inflation, while the Central Bank forecasts 2.1% growth this year and 2.9% next year despite the recent economic volatility.

In July 2026, the monthly economic activity estimator (EMAE) recorded a fall of 1.4% in the annual comparison (i.a.) and 2.9% compared to June in the seasonalized measurement. It was the biggest fall of that year and also since the covid pandemic.
