No Threat of Pacific-Wide Tsunami From Powerful Earthquake
United States · United StatesCaribe Wave 2024 will simulate two different scenarios that produce a significant tsunami-generating earthquake within the white boxes. The first scenario simulates a tsunami generated by a magnitude 8.7 earthquake located in the Puerto Rico Trench. The second scenario simulating a tsunami caused by an 8.4 earthquake located on the Northern Panama Deformed Belt. USGS reported several earthquakes in states that include Tennessee, North Carolina, New Jersey, New York, and Maine. Tennessee had the most earthquakes, but New Jersey had the strongest. The aircraft was able to land safely at EWR, but there were several injuries. The strongest earthquake to strike Maine in the last 10 years was a magnitude 4.5 event on October 16, 2012 in East Waterboro.
