Alexander Zverev and Felix Auger-Aliassime were eliminated as underdogs and injury derailed the Montreal Masters, with several other seeded players also falling.
- On Wednesday, the ATP Montreal Masters lost its top two seeds as Alexander Zverev suffered a second-round upset and Canadian Felix Auger-Aliassime withdrew with a back injury.
- Top seed Zverev, the world number three, was toppled by Dutchman Tallon Griekspoor in a three-set second-round rally. Zverev said, "This was probably the worst match of the season."
- Meanwhile, fourth seed Daniil Medvedev, the 2021 champion, lost to Botic Van de Zandschulp, while Greek Stefanos Tsitsipas fell to 19-year-old Brazilian Joao Fonseca 7-6 , 7-5.
- Tournament director Valerie Tetreault noted Auger-Aliassime was the player "everybody was talking about" after the Montreal native injured his back during training on Monday.
- Defending champion Ben Shelton rallied to defeat Jenson Brooksby in 96 minutes, recording his 28th victory of the season amid the tournament's cascade of upsets.
