At Zurich Airport, self-driving shuttles are transporting employees between the gates for the first time – soon they will be controlled entirely remotely.
Zurich Airport could become the first in Europe to use autonomous buses to transport employees along the tarmac. The system is currently being tested with a driver on board in case of a problem.
Zurich Airport has reached automation level 3 in its pilot project with self-driving shuttle buses. Employees have been able to use the vehicles since June, and a safety driver is still on board. The next step is to test driving with remote monitoring.
