In Zelzate, gas stations will now have to pay an annual fuel hose tax. This is stipulated in the municipal council's multi-year plan. The tax depends on the number of pumps (and therefore the number of fuel hoses) they have. Zelzate hopes this will help address the nuisance caused by fuel tourism from the Netherlands. This causes additional damage to the roads near gas stations, and therefore costs the municipality more to repair.
