- President Volodymyr Zelenskiy announced on August 25 a diplomatic window to end Russia's war in Ukraine lasting until summer 2027, with Ukraine having drafted a one-page proposal with Americans and Europeans to present to Moscow.
- The proposal centers on a ceasefire as "the main point," Zelenskiy told reporters, alongside an American-proposed free economic zone in Donbas to be administered by a third party.
- "These three ideas I've mentioned are not exclusively Ukrainian ideas," Zelenskiy said, noting they were developed jointly with Americans and Europeans, with provisions on European Union and NATO roles.
- A senior Russian diplomat said last week Moscow remains open to settlement proposals if they reflect the "realities on the ground," though U.S.-led peace talks collapsed earlier this year amid Washington's focus on Iran.
