Zelenskyy says Ukraine is ready to agree to energy ceasefire, but warns Russia must do same
Zelenskyy said Ukraine would stop refinery strikes if Moscow also ends attacks on energy infrastructure, warning the ceasefire could fail without U.S. enforcement.
On Monday, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy welcomed the energy ceasefire announced by President Donald Trump but warned Moscow must cease attacks on energy infrastructure, reporting immediate Russian violations.
Despite the announcement, Russia launched 121 drones and one Kh-59 missile overnight, with strikes recorded at 15 locations across Ukraine. A separate Russian drone attack on the village of Pisochyn killed three people Sunday evening.
Zelenskyy stated he learned of the deal via media reports, saying, "We are waiting for the details of the conditions." He expressed readiness to sign guarantees if the Americans ensure Russian compliance.
At the Warsaw Security Forum, violations were reported despite the agreement, prompting Zelenskyy to urge Washington to step in and ensure Moscow abides by the terms.
Russia has utilized energy infrastructure attacks to deny civilians power and water, aiming to wear down public resistance. The Russian Defence Ministry claimed its air defences intercepted 151 Ukrainian drones overnight.
