Kyiv says work continues on technical level between teams to study US proposals
Kyiv studies a U.S.-backed draft requiring territorial concessions and army limits while affirming commitment to sovereignty, people’s safety, and a just peace, officials said.
- On Friday, Kyiv called on partners to respect its position as technical-level Ukrainian and U.S. teams continued studying a U.S.-backed plan following a meeting with U.S. army officials.
- President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said on Thursday Kyiv had officially received a draft plan from the American side that, according to AFP, echoes many of Moscow's maximalist demands.
- The plan's provisions include territorial concessions, requiring Kyiv to cede the entire Donbas region and limit its army to 600,000 troops, while it would `receive robust security guarantees`.
- Rustem Umerov said Kyiv would study partners' proposals while insisting on sovereignty and safety, noting `We are carefully studying all of our partners' proposals and expect the same proper attitude towards Ukraine's position` on the Telegram app.
- U.S. officials plan to brief European Union ambassadors in Kyiv on Friday while about one million Ukrainian armed forces defend more than 1,200 kilometres frontline.
