- Amid mounting Zambia chances, Fashion Sakala and Dominic Chanda forced saves from Mali goalkeeper Djigui Diarra before Daka scored two minutes into stoppage time.
- Following the equaliser, Daka's celebration went wrong as he crashed head-first and appeared to bend his neck awkwardly, but he was not substituted and may face Comoros; Mali meet Morocco in Rabat on Friday.
- Looking at the group picture, winning either of their final two group games should be enough for Zambia to qualify, with all three City players at the tournament in the same group, including loanees Bilal El Khannouss and Woyo Coulibaly.
