Zack Polanski Will Not Try to Overturn Green’s ‘Zionism Is Racism’ Policy
Polanski says he disagrees with the motion but cannot change it before the next party conference, after members backed it by 1,022 votes to 813.
On Sunday, Green Party leader Zack Polanski told the BBC he will not overturn the party's new "Zionism is racism" policy, which remains binding until 2028 under conference rules.
Earlier this month, Green Party members passed the motion at the Brighton conference, describing Zionism as "an ethnonationalist Jewish state in historic Palestine to the exclusion and/or domination of the non-Jewish population."
An Ipsos survey found 52 per cent of the public view Polanski unfavorably, with his overall approval rating falling to minus 36, the lowest of any national leader.
Prime Minister Andy Burnham ruled out coalition deals with the Green Party while the policy stands, and Labour ordered local councillors to disavow the motion or dissolve power-sharing agreements.
Defending his decision, Polanski said, "I'm not an out of control autocrat," arguing he must respect the democratic will of party members rather than unilaterally override conference decisions.
