- On Wednesday, YSR Congress Party president and former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy urged the state government to involve the Andhra Pradesh Market Federation in tobacco procurement to boost competition among bidders.
- Visiting the Devarapalli tobacco yard on Tuesday, Reddy highlighted that average state prices dropped to Rs 214/kg from Rs 289/kg last year, while the Tobacco Board enabled procurement of barely 47 million kg out of 238 million kg produced.
- The YSRCP chief accused the Chandrababu Naidu-led government of failing to protect farmers' interests, alleging the administration is "hand in glove with companies" during procurement and that recent subsidies provide no effective relief.
- Naidu claims farmers receive 0% interest on loans up to Rs 50,000, but Reddy noted that during the previous regime, 0% interest applied to loans up to Rs 1 lakh, leaving farmers facing unviable prices.
- Further troubling farmers, the Tobacco Board has stopped updating auction data for the past ten days; Reddy warned that prices could decline further once buyers shift their focus to upcoming auctions in Karnataka.
