How to Stop Watching YouTube Shorts?
The update lets parents and other users set Shorts to zero minutes, removing the feed from the app and pausing scrolling at the limit.
- On Thursday, April 16, 2026, YouTube began rolling out a "zero-minute" daily limit for its Shorts feed on Android and iOS, effectively allowing users to disable the feature entirely.
- This update expands on Time Management tools introduced in October to discourage constant scrolling, which previously offered minimum limits ranging from 15 minutes up to 2 hours.
- Users can enable the restriction via Settings > Time Management > Daily Limits, which removes the Shorts tab and eliminates the horizontal scrolling bar from the homepage.
- According to YouTube spokesperson Makenzie Spiller, the option is "live for all parents, and is currently being rolled out to everyone," including users with regular adult accounts.
- Individual clips remain accessible through the Subscriptions feed or search results, ensuring users can still watch specific videos without the temptation of endless scrolling.
