VIRGINIA, JUL 16 – Google offers 10,000 scholarships for AI and tech certification courses to help Virginians access rapidly growing job opportunities amid rising unemployment, officials said.
- At Google’s Reston office, Gov. Glenn Youngkin announced the launch of the Virginia Has Jobs AI Career Launch Pad, offering free and low-cost AI certification courses to Virginians.
- Amid federal worker layoffs, the Trump administration earlier this year prompted the creation of a job website where AI training opportunities will be listed.
- The program includes all 10,000 reusable no-cost scholarships provided by Google, with 86% of AI Essentials course completers reporting better productivity or job performance, according to the press release.
- According to Slater, state unemployment has risen to roughly 20,400 continued claims, while he noted thousands of Virginians are already working in AI-related roles.
- Virginia stands as the only state with AI education guidelines spanning K-12 to higher education, said Secretary of Education Aimee Guidera, as approximately 31,000 AI-related job listings signal high employer demand.
