Mother of Missing U.K. Toddler Madeleine McCann Says She Felt ‘Invaded’ by Stalker
Scientific evidence disproved a Polish woman's claim to be Madeleine McCann, amid a stalking trial involving persistent harassment of the McCann family since 2022.
- On Wednesday at Leicester Crown Court, prosecutors said scientific tests showed Julia Wandelt had no familial link to the McCanns, and she sobbed shouting `why are you doing this to me?`.
- On December 7 last year, Wandelt and Spragg visited the McCanns' home, and prosecutors allege Wandelt asked for a DNA test in messages claiming `let me prove I am not a liar.`
- On May 3, 2024, Wandelt attended a vigil, and Mrs McCann said her stress increased over two-and-a-half years but eased after Wandelt's arrest at Bristol Airport on February 19.
- Wandelt and Karen Spragg deny stalking charges causing serious alarm and distress between June 2022 and February this year, and Kate McCann gave evidence from behind a curtain at Leicester Crown Court.
- Madeleine's 2007 disappearance remains unsolved and frames the trial after Christian Brueckner, named top suspect by German prosecutors in 2020, was released from a German prison last month.
