Young Fan Dies After Crash During Donegal International Rally
Organisers cancelled the remaining stages after a 15-year-old spectator died and two others were injured, while police and motorsport officials investigate.
On Saturday, June 20, 2026, a teenage spectator died following an incident at the Donegal International Rally in Donegal, prompting organizers to cancel the remainder of the three-day event.
Shortly before 5 p.m., the incident occurred on the 12th stage at Trentagh, near Kilmacrennan, when a competing car left the road at a left-hand bend and struck spectators.
Two other spectators were hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries at the event, which expected 100,000 spectators and featured more than 200 vehicles across 20 scheduled stages.
Motorsport Ireland and An Garda Siochana launched a full investigation and appealed to the public to refrain from sharing video footage of the incident circulating on social media.
Before the stoppage, five-time World Rally Championship winner Kris Meeke led ahead of Callum Devine; the death marks the first spectator fatality at the Donegal International Rally since 2019.
