Young Doctor Killed in Clifton Bank Robbery
Police said the fatal shot came from the bank guard’s pistol as four suspects fled with about Rs2.5 million.
On Monday, 28-year-old Dr. Akash Kumar, a doctor at Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre , was shot dead in Clifton while attempting to deposit Rs5 million at a bank.
Four suspects on two motorcycles intercepted the victim's vehicle, triggering an exchange of gunfire between the robbers and a bank security guard positioned outside.
South DIG Syed Asad Raza confirmed the bank security guard was arrested after investigators determined his bullet caused the fatal injury; police recovered a spent casing from his pistol.
Following the killing, the family placed Dr. Akash's body at Teen Talwar and staged a protest demanding immediate arrest of the suspects, blocking both road tracks and causing major traffic disruption.
Police reported the suspects fled with approximately Rs2.5 million, while authorities obtained CCTV footage from the vicinity and acquired route coordinates for geo-fencing analysis to identify the perpetrators.
