Yemen's Houthis claim strike on Saudi-run military camp in Aden

The Houthis said the strike targeted Saudi-backed military gatherings and a naval base, as they accused Saudi officers of overseeing the mobilization.

  • On Wednesday, October 21, Houthi forces fired a ballistic missile at Aden International Airport and the operations room at Badr Camp. "Our armed forces were able to target the Saudi enemy's operations room in the Badr camp in Aden," Houthi military spokesman Yahya Saree said.
  • Houthi forces simultaneously targeted a coalition military base at Al-Rayyan airport in Al-Mukalla with military equipment deliveries as the objective. Spokesman Saree said the group fired at "military equipment transported by the Saudi enemy via military cargo planes to Al Rayyan airport."
  • Retaliation claims for strikes in Taiz, which allegedly killed eight fishermen, were cited by Houthi spokespeople as justification for the offensive. This follows a deadly Houthi attack on a government training camp that killed 73 recruits, intensifying the regional cycle of violence.
  • International partners increased defensive posturing; Royal Air Force Typhoon fighter jets will deploy to Saudi Arabia for defensive missions. Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi requested parliamentary authorization to act in Saudi Arabia's defense if necessary.
  • Renewed fighting has shattered a 2022 UN-brokered truce, marking a return to open conflict that destabilizes the region. Western and regional powers increase defensive posturing to counter Houthi ballistic and drone capabilities amid the escalation.
